I never did for hunting, but I took a single action .22 to wood shop to make new grips. No one cared.

In high school we took guns to school during hunting season and that was in the 80s. In 2003, a .22 had fallen out of a 5th or 6th grader's pocket in the school's restroom. The female principal had sense enough to laugh and throw it in the trash. I suspect that was the last bit of common sense that was used by a school official.
