It neglected to mention that Japan had been expanding since the 1890s.

Did it mention the mutual admiration society between Hitler and Stalin?
Their countries may have been mortal enemies, but the two of them greatly admired each other, and in many instances, one learned from the other on how to be even more brutal.

Sgt. York was using a 1917 Enfield but it is a totally different gun than the Lee Enfield. The pattern 14 Enfield was a British attempt to improve on their rifles by going to a Mauser type action and a .280 cartridge.
WWI interrupted the whole thing and the British contracted with American manufacturers to produce the Pattern 14 but in .303 caliber. I am not sure if any of them ever made it to Britain but America had a shortage of rifles in 1917 and had the factories change the pattern 14 to 30-06 and named it the 1917 Enfield. We actually produced more of them than we did 1903 Springfields.

It also misrepresented the Night of the Long Knives and how Hitler actually came into power.

It was NOT the Renault tank which he actually rode to battle. I’m pretty sure it was a 1930s/402 American light tank.

Have looked in the past to no avail.
Perhaps the FReeper who was posting NYTs from history might be able to find some from the early 30s.

google had a newspaper project for a while but I never looked for anything like that.
If there is a specific date, maybe Homer could look it up next time he/she goes to the archives

I will commend them for bringing the Night into it but leaving Hindenburg out of the history is a mistake.

It sux. The production sets, music, actors, many of the commentators, and some totally misplaced archive footage. Youngsters who don't know much about that period of world history, i.e., high school graduates after 1980, might benefit from it.
Until someone presents more info about the Tommy who had Hitler in his sights and didn't shoot, I call B-S. I thought the bit about Hitler trimming his moustache to allow a gas mask seal interesting - also wonder if it was true.
Agree with all the comments about the Enfield/Mauser and B-17. I'll add 1 - Patton riding on the M3 Stuart tank which was developed until around 1940.
Needed more info on Stalin, but after all, this is the Hitler Channel.
Didn't know about the role of the Japanese in WWI or their presence at the Treaty of Versaille. I will have to follow up on that.

Shows MacArthur wearing 5 stars like this
on the collar when he delivers his famous line to FDR about an American boy with a bayonet in his belly. I'm not sure, but I'm pretty sure he didn't have that many stars at the time. In fact, I don't think anybody did.

That makes sense - at first I figured it was a French Renault - but it looked bigger than the ones I have seen in pictures and historical footage.
Bottom line is they seem to have done a reasonable job...but when it comes to the actual equipment they simply had to go with what they could get. "Hey!..Prop man!...get a bunch of old military stuff!"
To: eyedigress
My main beef re: the Night of The Long Knives sequence was the opera music.
Made it look like a mafia movie — not a lot of subtlety there.
