The second one is especially important to me, because it highlights the fact that doing right doesn’t guarantee that your life will be easy - and it may in fact be much harder. It’s much easier to accept getting betrayed or hurt while trying to do what’s right, if you remember that the right road is often the most difficult one - but is the road you should take.

I felt particularly touched by your comment. I am a preacher’s kid (PK) and was frequently a whistleblower during my career and suffered for it when others kept quiet. Eventually I became certified as a CPA and Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE).
Reagan’s “Trust But Verify” comes to mind as good advice for this topic! It was always good advice for auditors.
