“Coast Guard ain’t military.”
My point exactly, but they were included in the story as if they were. Which still makes S.A. Miller a moron because apparently HE thinks they are.
They are and they aren’t. They are more like a wartime reserve component; a civilian force that is activated and switches roles from civil duties to military duties when activated during wartime. They have the same military ranks, privileges, etc as any of the regular military services. They are not part of the four active/reserve warfighting military services so the swabbies are still the least respected with the exception of their Navy Seals component.
Disagree. They pull some awfully serious missions which fall between the military and law enforcement. Anybody else want to operate in that grey area during the Obama administration? Two words: Mona Passage.

USCG has earned my respect. Second only to USMC doing way more than their budget suggests. And I say that as an Army veteran. Kudos to USCG. They eat the crap sandwiches the careerist officers atop the four branches of the military throw overboard. Damn fine people. Hackworth would approve.
