I thought it was stolen from one of Bach’s Brandenburg concertos.

Isn’t this barred by time? I mean what happened, somebody just sobered up - don’t make me think how many decades later!

It took them 43 years to notice?
Color me skeptical...

Is this a joke? 43 years and they’re just getting around to this?

That’s nothing. Kansas’ “Carry On My Wayward Son” totally rips off Journey’s “I’m Gonna Leave You”.

I remember seeing a song from the 40s calles Stairway to Heaven, but can't remember who preformed or wrote it.

Awfully damned close! If they can prove that Page heard this, on record or in concert, they’ve got a case.

There’s a huge grey area of songs that vaguely suggest other songs. It’s like the software biz and patents, there would be enough potential debatable material to keep the scene totally locked up in court forever, but most participants walk away from lawsuits in practice.
I think once they get their Danegeld, they’ll go away.

Spirit was a favorite of mine, and I saw them in concert a couple of times.
That album was their best, their oldest member was born in 1923.
“Cassidy was instantly recognizable by his shaven head (hence his nickname “Mr. Skin”) and his fondness for wearing black. He was around twenty years older than the rest of the group (born in 1923). His earlier career was primarily in jazz and included stints with Cannonball Adderley, Gerry Mulligan, Roland Kirk, Thelonious Monk and Lee Konitz. He was a founding member of Rising Sons with Taj Mahal and Ry Cooder.”

There's a lady who's sure all that glitters is gold
And she's suing a stairway to heaven.
When she gets there she knows, if the courts are all closed
With a word she can get what she came for.
Ooh, ooh, and she's suing a stairway to heaven.

I think some of you that don't hear it aren't listening long enough into the song. I had my daughter listen once (6th grade, not very musically astute) and she even said “isn't that from that Stairway to Heaven” song?”
