I agree. Sam is not a particularly good football player. Outside of the media hype about him being gay, there’s nothing at all special about him as a player.
In fact, I’d say were it not for the media hype, there would be a pretty good chance of Sam getting cut in training. He’s just not all that good, and isn’t likely to develop into anything more than that.
As it is, I think he’ll be almost guaranteed a spot on the roster, and possibly get more playing time than he warrants, simply for the PR angle or keep the gay activists at bay.
Likely he knew he isn’t that good and played the gay card accordingly.
IMO it’s not about talent or advancement in the world over all...it’s about how you can “win” without it when you know you aren’t measuring up.
