Law makers in Fairfax County, Va., want to limit how many guests you can have in your private home and how frequent they can visit. This sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen.
The proposed amendment, which was first presented to the Board of Supervisors on Feb. 18, would prohibit any gatherings exceeding forty-nine people in one day [from occurring] more frequently than three times in any forty day period. They also want to add more specific language to define a permissible group assembly
The countys official website claims that there is a good reason behind the proposed amendment. The statement reads:
Over the last several years, there have been complaints from residents regarding frequent and large gatherings at neighborhood homes. These gatherings can create parking, noise, and other concerns for the neighborhood. Although occasional, large gatherings
are expected and permissible activities at a home, gatherings that occur on a regular basis involving numerous people can detract from the residential nature of a neighborhood.

That’s an argument someone running a meth lab might make too.
Reasonable land use restrictions are a legitimate exercise of local police power, example, home occupations.
Ooo, you gonna get flamed.
What part of “public square” do the opponents not understand? Disrespectful, self absorbed narcissistics need some direction or a fine for taking up the neighborhood.
My private home neighborhood is no public square, and the public square is not where a man comes at the end of the day for a little respite. There’s a difference.
Sheesh. Rent a mob and a mob hall, but get out of the evening in the neighborhood full of families.
Now, maybe I will read the article.
Either you own your property or you don't.
Houston, Texas has historically almost no zoning laws. Lead smelters next to day care centers if that's what happened... and people coped.
They didn't need a law. They didn't need someone with guns to come in and 'make things better'.
Neighbor has daily goat BBQs and you don't like it? Move out where that won't be a problem.
But don't send other men with guns to complain about something you are too cowardly to confront yourself.

And you didn't provide context for those pictures. Where were they taken? In the US?

And defining 'reasonable' is a legitimate exercise of local political power.
Just say NO! to nanny staters.

you are a collectivists/socialist
why do you trust government?
without property rights there are no individual rights , no freedom and the person becomes just a slave of the government
The Property Basis Of All Rights
Well down here they are. After all, 40 illegals living in a house is a bit much don’t you think?
funny we survived all our lives and 200 years prior to that without this stupid law , your new government power that you seek to give to government. why do you trust government? government is the enemy and the problem and you seek to empower them. Each new law that government writes just gives government more power and more justification to exist and grow.
You are for the government owning an individuals property
you are a collectivists/socialist
why do you trust government?

private property is the basis of capitalism and freedom
Sounds like a specific violation of that Jewish tradition.

Unconstitutional.
I hate HOA’s when it comes what I can WITH my property.
On the flip side, I don’t know how many times neighbors diagonally across the street have had out door parties with recorded music blaring into the wee hours of the nite and loud enough that I can hear with my entire house shut up and me sitting in a room at the back of the house with the TV on and the air conditioner running. At those times I could live with an HOA that said what everyone could do outside ON their property in terms of gatherings. In my situation it is not an HOA area and the local cops refuse to take an interest. Some of my neighbors are just afraid of the folks diagonally across the street from me and just don’t want to rock the boat for fear of their reaction.
An HOA, as bad as they are is NOT an unconstitutional invasion of rights as it is a matter agreed to in the sale and deed agreement; in other words people can chose to live under a set of HOA rules, or not.
As soon as I read that, before I could go any further, I said to myself, "This is a post by JRandomFreeper."
There are a lot of interesting people on FR, so I don't know if I can call you the most interesting, but your posts are certainly right up there!
Sorry for the thread hijack - I'll shut up now. :-)
LOL! Made me laugh!
And agree!
The trick is finding an HOA Board that follows it's own rules.
I have nothing against Local Control governance, close enough where you can get your hands on them.
As for disturbing the peace of a residential neighborhood with regularity, lopping on to all the parking and the curb fronts of every house on the entire street, heck “no”. Fine ‘em, or regulate ‘em. Not everyone is taught manners and consideration for others and THEIR property, sooo, that’s why we have town councils and police departments.
Not everything gets to be about “me”. But, I didn’t read the story. Maybe the neighbors loved it, and never complained, I don’t know.
you trust government
it's people like you that empower government and so erode our freedoms , rights and opportunities in the once free market
Government is your God.After you've seen the marvels of the free market , how millions of products are created almost over night all to solve problems by the free market and how government takes a year to approve just the startup of a business. you still think government is the only solution. you think people, individuals, and the free market cannot solve problems only your God government can. you are not a conservative imo
how did we survive for 200 years in this country with out this new law that you support to empower government with ? why don't you answer? how did civilization survive for thousands of years without it. and now you think this new law this "innovation" is some solution. ridiculous.government is the problem. government is more of a problem than any problem real or manufactured there is.
government is evil, unaccountable , corrupt ,inefficient. true or not? yes true. you say oh but local gov is good. LOL. no check out how the local government and your police just arrested a man for just speaking at a school board meeting("violating" a 2 minute rule) http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-bloggers/3153028/posts
I have mixed feelings about this, since I have neighbors who have loud parties till the wee hours of the morning, including kids screeching, (yes, the kids are there all night, sometimes they rent one of those big inflatable things for them to jump up and down in,) live bands, deejays, etc. Their favorite night to do this is Sunday night for some reason, when we all have to get up to go to work the next day. Sometimes gatherings in homes really can be inconsiderate to others in the neighborhood.
man up and take responsibility for living your life the way you want to .
if neighbors bother you so much then move to the outskirts and buy lots, work for it . don't expect your God government to do everything for you. government is the problem and all you do is give these thugs more power by giving them a new power to do what use swat teams to raid parties(wonderful NOT).
we have to turn the USA into a socialist hell hole because you have some perceived problems
lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part
