BTW, my 12 YO son and I are going to help with the grape harvest this summer at a local vineyard. He's really excited about it, but I think his enthusiasm will wane rapidly after picking grapes in 100 degree weather.
I can't wait for what should be an excellent teaching moment.

This black mom needs to lighten up. When I was 12 I was picking crops for a local farmer to help with the household expenses. Dad was a preacher in a small country church, so “getting by” on his salary was an issue. I think that if I had kids (which I don’t), I’d make sure they put in a couple years of farm work. It builds character.
