I hate Obama for a thousand reasons, but this isn’t one of them.
When my grandfather died, there was a *ton* of family drama that came out with the emotionalism of the moment. A LOT of anger and hurt and everyone was lashing out at everyone for a variety of reasons.
So I paid for my mom’s ticket to see her father buried and I spent the evening in my room praying for his soul. Heck, I prayed for the whole week for him and for my entire family to survive the loss of our bedrock.
There are a lot of reasons to skip a funeral - and the living are a big part of that.
I’d also like to point out that his presence at the first Ft Hood memorial overshadowed the dead and the families of the deceased. It would’ve been better had he not gone and his little speech hurt more than it helped.
Had he gone to his aunt’s funeral, the funeral would’ve been all about him because the press would’ve made it that way.
No. I don’t begrudge him stepping aside for this one and wish he’d do it more often.
That shows the depth of character our side brings.
You made some great points. I, too, must step aside with no criticism of Obama for this particular incident.
