..."Downton Abby", "Call the Midwife"?
Most think Jeremy Brett was the best. Too flamboyant IMO.
PBS is blocked on myTV.
Ah, New Tricks, forgot that one. Excellent
My wife and I just completed watching all 7 seasons of The Murdoch Mysteries. Though not British, it is Canadian and based in Toronto at the end of the 1800s and early 1900s.
Good writing, good characters and quite wholesome. It was a different time with people dressing and showing respect for others. Refreshing.
One note about the series is that they bring in contemporary historical figures such as Arthur Conan Doyle, Churchhill, Tom Edison etc. Adds a lot of historic context to the series.
Watched the first six seasons on Amazon and the most recent one on Watch-Series-Online, a great site for free viewing of just about anything on TV.
*BUMP*
True
The original Swedish "Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" is excellent, far better than an American remake. Plus, all three movies in the series are already available for streaming on Netflix. All are a must watch, IMO.
The Danes make some good crime dramas. "The Eagle" was a quite good TV series, about 26 episodes as I recall.
Ditto for "The Killing" (the original, not the US version)
If Bletchley gives anything even resembling an accurate account of the real thing then it's worthwhile IMO.
Ever since my first time seeing Red Dwarf I've tried to live my life in a way that would be pleasing to Dave Lister. And I've even named my home WiFi router "HollyHopDrive".I kid you not.
Forgot to mention...on Red Dwarf I met the woman that I'm gonna marry someday. It was the original Kachanski, who appeared for a few minutes in a couple of the early episodes.C.P. Grogan was her name and she was so cute it should be illegal.
The guy who played Watson is excellent in the new series Fargo.
He’s using a flat, midwestern Minnie-soda accent that sounds pretty legit.
Excellent actor.

Love Downton Abbey! It is the only thing on tv that I watch.
Call the Midwife is based on a book which I have read. I have not watched the program.
I’m looking forward to that too.
I couldn’t get into “Mr. Selfridge” for some reason, but I still have a jacket that I bought at Selfridge’s 20 years ago.
I love the Bletchley and the Midwife shows and also love “Scott and Bailey” on PBS.
.
Thanks, I’ll look for it.
I loved the S. Korean show ‘Pasta!’ on Netflix.
Ironically, Brits aren’t too keen on Benny Hill nor Mr. Bean :/ They don’t like that type of humor..
Their style of comedy is very dry to most of us :( I personally can’t stand most of what they find comedy :p (too long and drawn out).
Was on vacation last week and saw a documentary about the village DM is being filmed in. VERY cool and interesting and fun. The village is an actual working fishing village, and based on the weather, the filming has to occur in the short summer months.
It has now become a tourist haven to watch the filming and to see the actors. It was when I saw this documentary I found that they were planning on doing another year.
Also found out about how British Series work - Very touchy feely, in that if the writers and producers are happy with the product, they keep going. And there's no annual requirement for the series either - they wait until the writers are ready !!
Anyhoo, enough blather for now...
Forgive the hijack, but the PBS special on Muscle Shoals on right now is outstanding.
I watch all three, and Mr. Selfridge - love them all.
I agree, and for some reason, he reminds me of the actor who played Niles in the TV series Frasier. His mannerisms in Sherlock Holmes and those of the character Niles are very similar, and these two actors look somewhat alike, if both had light brown hair..they could be taken as brothers.
