He abruptly left and I didn't know why until I was an adult that he began laughing and had to hide it from me.
My mom (RIP) talks about the time her mom told the four girls to get ready while she got a switch from the lilac bush. Her mom walks in, switch in hand, confronted by bent-over bare bums ranging in age from 7 to 14. My mom recalls her breaking down in laughter on the floor!
I would run around the house to try to get away from my spankings. Running through the kitchen once I grabbed a flat tin pot cover and got it shoved into my pants. I’m guessing I was five or six.
Visiting my mom before she died we were going over some of our antics as kids. She didn’t recall that one with the lid - but she did say “Well, I remember spanking you one time and my hand REALLY hurt! Maybe that was it!”
(And no - I didn’t tell my mom a week before she died ALL of the stories!). Sorry mom. I suppose you know them now! Thanks for a great life.
I have a photo of me strapping a flag pole with an American flag on top of a 60-foot pine tree that was in our backyard. I was probably 14 at the time. And my MOM was taking the picture! What sort of mom lets their kids DO stuff like that!!??
