Well we never got in trouble for this, but we filled a black sock with pea stones from a neighbor’s driveway, tied it to heavy fishing line, and pulled it across the street as cars were coming. This was in a small town on a low mph road, btw. It was fun watching cars swerve a bit and/or lock up the brakes. We never pulled it across if there were two cars.

Oh, and we took down a 30 MPH speed limit sign and, using black paint, made it read 80 MPH. Put it back up the same night, and it STAYED THAT WAY FOR OVER A YEAR before they fixed it.

I was not involved in this one, but about 10 years back on mischief night someone decided to paint the municipal green steel truss bridge on White Bridge road... white. They actually did a fantastic job of it too.

It is a single lane bridge on a very rural road that all the Trentonites that work at the women's prison in Clinton, NJ use as their "shortcut". 5 years ago there were rumblings that the County Engineer wanted to blow 2 million bucks on a new bridge there... which made no sense as it was a very isolated spot, the road took a 90° bend right next to the bridge, and there was an abandoned railroad grade there too... the road was a country road good for 35.

All it really needed was a fresh coat of white paint. The neighbor's used to put up hanging baskets of begonias hanging from the trusses... it was very quaint... peaceful.

Last time I was home I saw they started work on the new bridge. The old structure was gone... and here they are blow MILLIONS in tax revenue when all it needed was 5 gallons of white paint and a couple drunks on mischief night.

Before (click for article):

After (1.1 Million Dollars in grant money was spent):

Actually looks nice... but, still, that was a lot more than a few gallons of paint.
