but he 'was abruptly cut off'
The co-pilot of missing flight MH370 made a call from his mobile phone as the aircraft flew low over the west coast of Malaysia.
Investigators have learned that the call was made from Fariq Abdul Hamid's mobile phone as the Boeing 777 flew low near the island of Penang, on the north of Malaysia's west coast.
The New Straits Times reported today that it was understood the aircraft, with 239 people on board, was flying low enough for the nearest telecommunications tower to pick up Fariq's signal.
The call ended abrupty, however it has been learned that contact was definitely established with a telecommunications sub-station in Penang state.
The paper said it had been unable to ascertain who Fariq was trying to call 'as sources chose not to divulge details of the investigation.'
It added: 'The telco's (telecommunications company's) tower established the call that he was trying to make. 'On why the call was cut off, it was likely because the aircraft was fast moving away from the tower and had not come under the coverage of the next one,' the paper said, quoting 'sources'....
The dramatic revelation that Fariq tried to make a phone call after regular communication from the aircraft to ground control was lost opens up a new field of speculation - and more questions about the mysterious disappearance of the jet.
If Fariq was able to make a call, why was there no attempt by the pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, to also make a mobile phone call?...

And why is this coming out a month later?
His cell phone bill must have just arrived —
The copilot guy looks like Azn on street outlaws farm truck team?
This may be the best lead the malaise govt has yet.
The Malaysians totally effed this thing up it’s no wonder none of the family members trust the official story.
Maybe he was locked out of the cabin? That’s been my personal theory—co-pilot goes out to the bathroom, or to chat with the stewardesses, and the pilot locks him out and hijacks the plane.
The moneyline in the story is the last one:
“Government officials have said any formal inquiry should not begin until the flight’s black box recorders are found.”
Is it any wonder they don’t seem too interested in recovering the black box.
They have keys.
That’s the most reasonable theory —
That was my thought as well.
The map with the article shows the aircraft was tracked by Malaysian radar way off to the northwest, yet everybody is looking far to the south? So the latest theory is that the plane made TWO sharp turns?
I’m still not convinced the plane ended up off the coast of Australia.
Somebody knows something that isn’t being revealed.
Things really are different in the third world.
Nope, it is just the result of the selective smoke and fire that instantly killed the pilot and co-pilot while gradually corrupting the electronics in his cell phone which caused it to make a “butt” call. That is the same smoke and fire that gradually corrupted the on board flight controller, causing it to make course and altitude changes.
bump
Silly of me to overlook that. But, they might also have a deadbolt for extra security when someone is trying go get in. I don't know--maybe someone else can chime in on that.
Also, I note the article says the plane was at 7000 feet, which means the call was probably made after the excursion to 43000 feet, which may have largely disabled anyone on the passenger side of the door.
Ya think?
Somehow I think our government knows. Of course Israel knows too.
Or not, cause I'm not a pilot and have never played one on TV. ;) Like I said, I'm just guessing.
“If Fariq was able to make a call, why was there no attempt by the pilot, Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, 53, to also make a mobile phone call?”
He was with Verizon and knew it was hopeless?
The map with the story is wrong since it shows the flight path over Indonesia.
The plane was tracked up and around Indonesia and Indonesian radar toward waypoint IGREX then south.
When it went south it had fuel to fly 2600 miles. Where they are looking means that it went down after 2000 miles — so it had fuel to go further but didn’t.
Was likely scuttled at that location on purpose because there was a ship waiting there???
It may take 50 years to get the real facts but I am beginning to suspect a different group hijacked the jet, possibly with a fighter escort.
I cannot say the agency which of course describes them perfectly. Their goal, to keep some new revolutionary cloaking technology away from China, or to at the very least gain a strong advantage for political leverage.
The pings that are being chased is diversionary, a stalling tactic designed to drag out for months.
Absolutely not a single shred of debris, not a single Styrofoam cup.And that rumored report of passengers held captive may actually hold water. On an island base.
I do not believe it was Islamic pilot suicide, I am doubting now that aircraft was stolen to be a nuclear bomb delivery device, too complicated.
What I do believe is that the current political leadership has gotten so corrupt it makes everyone else look clean.
