Two pit bulls broke through a fence in a Nevada community, entered a neighbor's home through a dog door and killed three dogs inside while the residents were away, animal control officers said.
Jennifer, a resident of the home in the Reno suburb of Spanish Springs returned Friday to find Jill, a black lab, Gucci, a shih tzu, and Buddy a Pekingese dead inside inside the house on Reiger Springs Drive.
The dogs were seized and their owner is facing a citation, said Barry Brode, director of Washoe County Animal Services. The pit bulls could be euthanized if a judge orders it.

Why not? Mellow is mellow
What do we call people who ignore reality and live in an imaginary fantasy world (other than democrats I mean)? The word "delusional " springs to mind.
I call BS read this
How many PBTs (and others) seemed “perfectly nice” until they ripped off someone’s arm? In fact, that is often a hallmark of the fighting dogs - no warning. Just plunge in full force. That is why it is irrelevant.
So American Bulldogs are known for attacking people?
well...do a GIS for “retriever attack”
Also...map the popularity of breeds during certain time frames and follow the trends:
“In contrast to the time period covered by the CDC study, which found pit bulls and Rottweilers to be the most commonly involved breed in such attacks during that time period, this study found no fatal pit bull attacks at all in the US during its time period, and only one Rottweiler attack.
Ancient and spitz breeds also committed a significant minority of the attacks. These were mostly sled dog breeds (nine Husky breeds and five were Malamutes), but there was also one Chow Chow and one Basenji.
However, by far the most common specific single breed involved in fatal attacks (16) was the German Shepherd Dog, which, like the two Doberman Pinschers also listed, is a product of an intensive documented breeding program involving quite unrelated canine bloodlines to create a superior working dog. There were also two identified only as collies, although the breed was not specified.”
dogbites is about as even handed in it’s reporting as indymedia.
I don’t know. They are still directly square in the family of PBT-bulldog. The only breeds that were that type that are clearly not what they were are Bulldogs, Bull Terriers and Boston Terriers. AmBulls are rare and pretty close to fighting, if not still doing so.
What “study” is this? It is insane if it thinks PBT types were never involved, although I don’t know what time - CDC time of 20 years? Crazy to not find one PBT type. No way.
Don’t know what that gobbledygook is about GS bloodlines and Dobes. In terms of popularity, GS are SOOOO popular, that any bites and attacks are not shocking. Same with Labs, now.
Dogbites.org at least does have actual data. They aren’t just printing their own opinions.
Individual dogs most likely to seriously injure or kill someone are in order:
I never knew a Bullmastiff was a Presa Canario (it isn’t).
I have serious doubts about their popularity poll here. Even in all their forms, PBT-bulldogs are not very popular either now or historically. With all the attacks coupled with unpopularity, they are likely to be very dangerous. Going by AKC stats is not perfect (doesn’t cover unregistered dogs and doesn’t include many breeds), but also gives a bit different idea of which have worse percentages of attacks. Rottweilers are quite popular, yet have a pretty high attack rate, so should be middling on the list.
I get the idea, though.
lack of accurate data is always a problem. If you can find a better source let me know.
Boy oh boy, I have to say - the popularity gleaned from ads is absurd. No way English Setters are more popular than German Shepherds. Not to mention even worse, the nature of the “attacks”. A little dog stupidly caused a bike accident? To call that an attack is absurd, as is the idea of a jumping dog knocking down someone. That is simply impolite poorly trained dog (although, yes, jumping could be part of attack and the dog was stopped before further actual attacking).
I wish I could! But we could start with that study and modify it to make it more accurate.
Lack of accuracy in the raw data notwithstanding, I wouldn’t get any of the dogs on the top 8 list for a pet. The exact numbers may be off, but I suspect that they wouldn’t change their ranking more than a place or two.
I have no problem with pit bull owned by responsible owners.
Owners like my neighbor, though, scare the shit outta me. He’s a biker and got the dog to go with the image. At 4 months old, the dog ran onto my property. I am in process of fencing in my yard.
Asked him about the dog and hhe’s keeping him in tact to breed him. The dog has not been socialized beyond his family nor with other dogs. He never walks it. It spends most of the time on the deck barking his head off.
I have 4 dogs now, 2 Belgian Sheepdogs and 2 Border Collies.
I am VERY worried.
I would absolutely not have a PBT type dog. Airedale (jumped on someone? come on) definitely would have, and probably the spitz dogs. Spitz have a tendency to be crazy - very hyper so you have to watch that. I might have a Rott but I have to admit, being pretty high up in stats (though paltry compared to PBTs), I’d be skeptical with my child around. Basically, I’m not automatically suspicious (breedist) of any of them except PBT/bulldogs.
