My sources say otherwise and checking the magnitudes on the 8th and the 14th indicate the 8th is the date.

Okay I was using Sea and Sky site. They say the Opposition on the 8th was the closest point. Evidently not. So the 14th will have a full moon chasing Mars with a total eclipse happening. Should be an interesting night. Hope its clear.
Good ole red Mars closest on the 14th plus a full, blood-red Moon on the 15th plus Passover is on the evening of the 14th going into the 15th.
There will be four blood-red Moon (lunar eclipses) over the next two years. Each one will be on Passover and Sukkot.
This lunar tetrad of blood-red Moons is fairly rare but when they do occur major stuff happens.
