I avoid left turns whenever convenient. I implemented the same rule informally, mostly to avoid potentially dangerous situations. I nearly always avoid dangerous intersections when it makes sense.

I have my own left-turn avoidance rule as well. I also have a "find a traffic light" to get out of the parking lot rule, in addition to many others. If there's an easy, convenient way to avoid a dangerous situation, do it!
