How does getting rid of something that’s free hurt them?

I was wondering.. with them giving it away for free.. how do they make their money?

I assume the same way google does with Chrome. Collecting and selling your browsing habits.

Firefox’s revenues are base on how many people use it. With less people using it, they get less money.

As per a Mozilla spokesperson, "Mozilla's search agreement with Google accounted for approximately 90 percent of our 2012 royalty revenue, as disclosed in our annual financial statement."

How did blocking their free browser (which had already been downloaded and installed) from using OKcupid hurt them? That was the only site that I've read about that blocked their browser and it was for about a day.
