I don’t get why they can’t do both, have a corporate name and also keep Gator Bowl.
For example, we have seen names such as the Federal Express Orange Bowl, Sunkist Fiesta Bowl, Sea World Holiday Bowl, in which the corporate sponsor and the traditional name are both part of the title.
Well, see how excited people get about the Tax Slayer Bowl.
I had to open this thread and read it.
I couldn’t figure out which group of easily-offended people were being offended by the term “gator”, or if “gator” was a slang term of some sort that offended someone.
It turns out to be non-political.
OTOH - who is going to look at their TV Guide or sports section and block out time from their day to watch the “TaxSlayer.com Bowl”?
So it was too difficult to just make it the Taxslayer.com Gator Bowl?
I’m so sick of corporations destroying traditions. Look at the Peach Bowl too.
If they are going to have a “Gator” Bowl, it should be played in Gainesville, which they actually did once, while the stadium in Jacksonville was being renovated.
It was sacrilege that they actually painted the Tennessee Checkerboard in the end zone of The Swamp.
What if a porcelain throne manufacturer wanted to sponsor a game?
Would they call it the Toilet Bowl?......................
Is the name “Gator” racist or homophobic?
Ferengi Rules of Acquisition #264.............
PETA will be overjoyed....................and I don't mean Peta Mergatroyd................
It’s gonna be weird to hear the annual GA-FLA Game called the TaxSlayer.Com GA-FLA game.................
That sounds like the scene from Idiocracy where a character kept spouting the name of a ‘sponsor’ every few seconds, totally inappropriate to whatever conversation subject, because he was paid every time he said it....................
-PJ
It has a really happy ending..........................
Some people still don’t quite get it.
How about The Gator Slayer Bowl?
bet Gaytor Bowl would be OK.
1. It’s capitalism at work.
2. As noted already, Europe and other places around the world have long had brand sponsoring mixed with sports naming and the like.
3. In the new era of college football playoffs, the individual bowl identities are becoming less and less important.
With me, Cowboys Stadium will ALWAYS be Cowboys Stadium. And the Gator Bowl will ALWAYS be the Gator Bowl.
well, if they are up for the idea for more than 4 hours, they have a problem.
Suppose you’re right.
