‘Does Richard Ndesandjo exist?’

Do most genealogy services list Richard?

Has Mark Ndesandjo posted photos of Richard, and IDed them as his brother?

Has Mark promised to devote an entire section of his upcoming book to his relationship with Richard, as he has to his relationship with his late brother, David?

Has Nairobi’s largest newspaper mentioned Richard as being Ruth Ndesandjo’s son, as it has David?

Has Nairobi’s second largest newspaper mentioned Richard as Ruth Ndesandjo’s son, as it has David?

When Sally Jacobs interviewed the Ndesandjos’ neighbors, did they mention Richard? They mentioned Mark and David.

Did David Maraniss mention Richard as being a son of Ruth Ndesandjo, as he mentioned Mark and David?

I gather that Richard’s entire existence is based on one quote by Ruth Ndesandjo. I’ve never seen the quote in context and I don’t know how reliable it is. If, however, she had a son named Richard, wouldn’t you think he’d left behind a bit more of a trail, a la David Ndesandjo?

I don’t know the answers to your questions, but I can answer my own. It seems that Richard does exist and Mark claims him as his brother: Richard attended Cornell University. He’s a well-known tennis player. See this link, which was posted somewhere earlier on Free Republic: http://www.scmp.com/magazines/post-magazine/article/1453192/other-obama

Look at this photo, contained within the photo gallery at the top of the article: http://www.scmp.com/sites/default/files/styles/980w/public/2014/03/21/mark_obama_-_family_treea.jpg?itok=COHx3_Z0

In his new book, Mark has promised a section about his family tree. That’s his tree in the photo. It includes someone we can presume is Richard, although the name is spelled “Ridhard”.
