Take a good look at Toshiba, I have two at home, the new 19” is really a nice package. Don’t like W8, but you’re kind of screwed there now. Bought it at Office Depot on sale, don’t remember the exact price but I’m really happy with it, and I do some serious CAD/CAM work too.

For Windows 8, install classic shell or Start8 to get the windows 7 look and feel back. I like windows 8 as much as 7 with this one little change. The upcoming windows 8 update may be even better but I haven’t seen the features in it yet.

Toshiba Satellites are great unless you like a working battery or need the fan cleaned

I too bought a Toshiba laptop last year for hubby's birthday. Walmart had a great package price and other than the Windows 8, it's perfect for his work and recreation. It's 8 months old now and no glitches.

Toshiba hard drives crash...so if you go this route, be sure you back up everything!
