Cuban: NFL issues go beyond TV
ESPN ^ | March 25, 2014 | Tim MacMahon

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban elaborated on his controversial opinion that the NFL "is 10 years away from an implosion" in a 1,585-word Facebook post published Monday night, upping the ante to include player safety and behavioral issues as additional threats to pro football's future.

Cuban's comments about the NFL on Sunday night focused on what he perceives as "greed" by the country's most popular sports league.

He contended that the oversaturation of the NFL's expanding television package would eventually turn off fans. That subject was the third of five points in Cuban's Facebook post to explain his prediction for a drastic decline in the popularity of the NFL.

Cuban's first point was that the decline of popularity of football at the youth level due to safety issues could have a trickle-up effect. Concussions, in particular, are a hot-button issue for the NFL office.

I agree.

Pro football used to be a Sunday thing with a Monday night cherry on top. Now it’s Sat/Sun, Monday, Thursday, and, some now are pushing for Wednesday and Friday night games. Hint to the NFL, you make yourself not so special if you’re on the boob tube 5 or 6 nights a week. You’re on the verge of wearing people out now.

They’ve got a golden goose but that idiot Goodell is getting ready to strangle it.

I think the NFL being a talking piece for the DNC and the gay agenda is what’s turning me off.

Pink shoes and gays in the locker room did me in.

I cant waste 3 hrs of my freetime watching overpaid guys play a game.
Besides, college is better because the kids are playing for their lives.

They’ve got to somehow, someway get a handle on the head injury issue. That alone will be the demise of the league eventually.

My brother and I have DVDs of the videos of NFL playoffs from the 70’s. We like to watch them in the runup to the Super Bowl. Back then, the coverage was to a certain extent understated and classy compared to today. I liked how they introduced each member of the officiating team by name.

I've long had a sneaking suspicion that the NFL is becoming as rigged as wrestling. Too much money on the line.

A call here, a missed play there, and the outcome of a game could be set, and we wouldn't be the wiser.

There is no head injury issue; there are liberals out to destroy something that is HUGE and AMERICAN and SUCCESSFUL on an IMMENSE SCALE! It’s big, it’s bad, it’s men, it’s money, it’s American, it’s violent, so it must go, and NOTHING ON EARTH makes liberal sub-human monkey vomit mega-filth happier than destroying something using the courts.

And those calls generally go against the teams in the smaller markets.

Cuban is delusional. The NFL, just over the last few years, has finally caught up to the NBA with the disgusting gangsta/ghetto culture.

Don’t forget the female sideline reporters following up one stupid question with another. 18 game schedule? Cuban is probably speaking as an NFL FAN-not competitor.

Another thing is the commercials during games are FAR too numerous! Before we know it, they’ll start doing 30 second commercials after incomplete passes. The overt PC bullshit is another killer, especially given who their core audience is.

I think they’ve been getting TERRIBLE advice from marketing consultants. Hell... That’s about the case with every business these days. Just look at virtually ANY television commercial. Almost no person you see looks or acts like you, or anyone you know. If you just landed here from Mars and saw a TV commercial, you’d think our civilization was nothing but ‘hipsters’, nerds, and anorexic looking sluts.

Behavioral issues in the National Felons League? Say it ain't so, Joe.
Actually, greedy teams/players and TV (e.g., ESPN) in all sports forced me away many years ago. Probably began when the baseball players voted to strike and canceled the '94 World Series.
After that, it was games starting at 8/9 pm and running until after midnight; never being able to see the end of a game. Why bother?
The NBA and NHL seasons now run for 9 booooring months, and then 3/4s of the teams qualify for the playoffs. Why bother playing the season?
Add in the never ending commercials and (except for the Yanks and NY Giants) I no longer watch sports.

I only watch NFL RedZone. No commercials...bouncing from play to play around the league. The average football game only has around 15 minutes of actual action.

I've long had a sneaking suspicion that the NFL is becoming as rigged as wrestling. Too much money on the line.

That means Jerry Jones is a far worse GM than anyone could imagine. lol

NFL owners should be concerned at the new TV technology, i.e. 4K TV's. I don't normally overreact to new tech, but 30 seconds in front of a Sony 4K TV was enough to sell me. The "wow factor" was incredible, and I have a 40" HD TV in my man cave.

Our old (15 year) TV finally gave out, and we replaced it with a 65" Sony 4K. I've now attended my last Dallas Cowboys game. For the cost of taking the family to a game (end zone seats), the TV will pay for itself in a couple of years...the equivalent of going to 4 games.

Over the past ten years, I've probably gone to three NFL games in person. But I have no interest in going in person anymore. I'd much rather sit in my recliner in front of my Sony 50-inch HDTV with ample food and drink, a clean restroom just a few steps away, and no obnoxious or drunk fans to deal with.

I agree about the endless commericals and station promos, they are getting way out of hand.
