California will go to Mexico long before Alaskans vote to go to Russia.
If anything, this Alaska crap is just another attempt to inspire fear of Russia when our real concern with Russia lies south of the border.

Groups Siberian russians crossed the Isthmus (now the Bering Strait) 16-10 thousand years ago. They must have had a time machine, as the Rus weren't even around until the 800s, and I doubt the first Rus looked out on the Bering Sea for 700 years after that.

Two things: Sounds like satire.
And, for Alaskans, this may be a good idea, i.e. going from a socialist country over to a capitalist one.

You have to admit - Obama has succeeded. The fundamental transformation of America is alive and well. There are over 8k signatures, so far, who apparently want Alaska to be handed back to Russia. Mind boggling.
However, I bet most everyone who voted for this reprobate didn’t get what they thought they were getting.

Groups Siberian russians crossed the Isthmus (now the Bering Strait) 16-10 thousand years ago. So they invaded Alaska back then. Motion denied.

I guess it depends on how many Russian language speakers are there.
That seems to be the prevailing theory of geopolitics in 2014.

Let’s give them California and Massachusetts instead.

Be careful what you liberals wish for. Sarah Palin will then be Russian, be elected President, and haunt the living crap out of you all. What a thought. (To the author of this piece)

Also give them Detroit and Chicago, if they will take them...

You are correct and of course this is satire. Most Crimeans consider themselves to be Russian. Sadly, we are already at the stage where a significant number of California residents identify more as Mexicans than as Americans. The real problem we will have though will manifest itself in bankruptcy long before any secessionist activity takes place.

If Michigan was smart they’d encourage migration from Detroit to Chicago. At some point the tipping point would be reached and Michigan would be a GOP leaning state at the national level.

There is an interesting parallel with Crimea and California.
If we were to allow California to secede, we would retake the ports one way or another.

There is, and has been for a long time, a movement to succeed in AK, but NOT to join Russia!
