A loopback address; a non-routable IP address that is defined as referring to the “local” computer.

In other words, 127.0.0.1 is any computer you happen to be sitting in front of right now.

I supervise some of the new Cyber training for the AF. It's amazing how few people would understand your post these days. When computers first started taking off in the mid-late '80s, everyone "played" and knew a lot. These days, nobody seems to have interests with figuring out how things work. Too bad they also vote....
