An assistant philosophy professor at Rochester Institute of Technology wants to send people who disagree with him about global warming to jail.
The professor is Lawrence Torcello. Last week, he published a 900-word-plus essay at an academic website called The Conversation.
Torcello, who has a Ph.D. from the University at Buffalo, explains that there are times when criminal negligence and “science misinformation” must be linked. The threat of climate change, he says, is one of those times.
Throughout the piece, he refers to the bizarre political aftermath of an earthquake in L’Aquila, Italy, which saw six scientists imprisoned for six years each because they failed to “clearly communicate risks to the public” about living in an earthquake zone.
Torcello says that people are already dying because of global warming. “Nonetheless, climate denial remains a serious deterrent against meaningful political action in the very countries most responsible for the crisis.”
As such, Torcello wants governments to make “the funding of climate denial” a crime.

It is always ironic to hear an academic propose ruthless suppression in the name of academic freedom. It's even funnier when it's a philosophy major.
Sounds like Torcello is trying to win points in hopes of getting into some coed’s pants.

Since when is philosophy a real degree? It is just a vehicle for permanent academic employment.
“Excuse me professor but tell me, what caused the end of the last six ice ages? What is the “correct” temperature of the earth and how do you know? Also, why is warmer worse?”
I would like to add, exactly at what temperature do we need to be at and just exactly how much is that going to cost. As a bonus question what happens if you overcompensate and the earth cools too much? What is the backout plan?
We better all hurry up and write our checks to those “Deniers” before they make it illegal.
Who do I send this to again? Who are those folks that are paying for the vast conspiracy against man made global warming?

So go take some political action in China, Middle East, India...heard they are far worse polluters than the U.S., but of course that may get him hurt.
I did,nt know any one denied climate change, the only thing i have heard is that many people deny Global warming and most people deny man made Global warming.

Why does an institute of technology need a philosphy professor anyway, particularily one who has such flawed logic as to believe that climate change equals + or - or null depending on what evidence is handy.
