Except that if the plane had landed successfully, ACARS would have sent a message to Rolls Royce saying that the engines had been powered off. The SATCOM system was never disabled, nor was ACARS. Rolls Royce only expected three messages during this flight and they received two of them: takeoff thrust and initial cruise climb completed.

Without knowledge of those systems but using your words as a guide , I would say that a successful landing was still possible without a message being generated ... simply placing a metal barrier over the sat uplink antenna would prevent the message as would taxiing into a metal hangar ..
