Aviation and movies pretty much got their start about the same time, and ever since, they've been making movies about the drama of flight. With the mystery of the lost Malaysia Airlines 777 dominating the news, (and no doubt there are already plans being made for a movie) I was wondering what movies about airplanes and flight are FReepers' favorites?
You mean this one ?
A newly-appointed Air Force base commander in the early 60's (Rock Hudson) must whip his unit into shape to pass a grueling inspection that his predecessor failed. Has an excellent scene where he and another actor are standing out next to a runway watching B-52's do MITO's (Minimum Interval Take-Off). They really WERE out there on the runway...not a green screen.
Here is the scene.
Yep. I have probably seen it a dozen times, starting when I was just a kid, and I will still watch it again.
A few I haven’t seen mentioned:
Five Came Back
Captains of the Clouds — features an appearance by the legendary Billy Bishop
Reach For The Sky (bio of Douglas Bader)
Only Angels Have Wings
“One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest”
The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle.
