Is it just me, or have they gotten even more obnoxious since the California legislature passed a law giving them 3 feet of space on any road, no matter how narrow? I really hate the ones that ride side by side in the bike lane, with one in the road, instead of single file. On the narrow roads where I live, that means we have to slow down to 15mph to wait to pass them if a car is coming the other way. What jerks!
Yes. I think so. I think it has gotten worse and so has my attitude about them as well. If riders are cool then I’m cool. If they are road hogs and it is between me and another car—well let’s just say—I pass in a manner that allows ME not to get hit by another driver. That law is insane.
It’s worse here in Oregon. The law says you have to be SIX FEET from them, and that they have the right to share any road they wish to, even if it means riding their bike at 20 mph on a rural highway with twisty, blind corners, and cars going 55 mph.
I hate those idiots that force you to slam on your brakes as you suddenly come upon them doing a third of the prevailing speed of the cars.
And I’m an avid mountain biker (Trek 6700) who rides occasionally on the streets, but I’m never so selfish as to block traffic by riding soooo much slower than the cars behind me, and forcing them to not be able to pass.
