From what I heard about the two Iranians “seeking asylum” they both entered Malaysia at the same time, February 28th, from Qatar using their legit Iranian passports..it was only on Flight 370 that for whatever reason they used the stolen passports..if they were seeking asylum, they had already used their legit passports once, why not just do it again, go to whatever country they want, and seek asylum

Just a guess, but Iranian travelers might be denied entry without a valid visa, which might be hard to come by. With an EU passport, no such scrutiny, at least at first.
