You gotta a good point there. If the plane was under water, I doubt those smart phones would have done any better than mine did when I dropped it in the Jacuzzi. It shut off within a few seconds, not days later.

So what would cause QQ to show these smartphones as being on and online for three days after the crash? Can anyone explain that one to me?
Maybe Jonah’s whale popped up, ate them, and then spit them out on land near a cellphone tower?

The only way a cell phone system can tell if your phone is on is if it is still connecting with a tower somewhere. If your phone is on and you go out of range (or drown your phone in the ocean) the system has no idea that it has changed states. IF the phone is on and in range then the service provider would easily know where it was, or at least what tower it was connecting with.
Bottom line: The cell phones “ringing” or phone systems indicating that they are still on doesn’t mean a bloody thing.
