Luther declared “I now know of a certainty that the papacy is the kingdom of Babylon.”

Please provide a link or source to the above quote. For some reason on this site whenever Luther is quoted it is a good idea to post the link.

Luther did say that (or something close). Full disclosure, I am a Lutheran.

It was a common thing back then. Remember, it was shortly after the Papacy moved backed to Rome from France.

Here’s a couple sources. It’s from Luther’s 1520 ‘The Babylonian Captivity of the Church’. Ctrl-f to search within the page. I was ELCA Lutheran, until I saw their ‘journey’ apostasy. Interesting how many Lutheran sites don’t link to Luther’s writings.
