The Unique Britain design is hideous, looks like the designer was looking through a caleidoscoop when he thought of that and makes one dizzy looking at it.

Any reason why they included American Indian Colors (Black, White, Red, and Yellow) into this design?

These colors represent the Four Directions and the Four major races of Mankind. FYI.

Looks like an optical illusion. Stare at it long enough and you’ll start thinking English food tastes good.

That flag suggestion is a blinding prism, and looks to have been designed by M.C. Escher; Rejected by this Yank.

Unless there is some sort of Anglo-Belgium union we dont know about in the future to explain that mess, then it isnt remotely necessary to alter the current flag which doesn’t have to follow any legal union between England and Scotland in order to justify its current design continuing in the event Scotland loses its mind in September.

Even if that did happen, the historical ties (and shared monarchy) more than makes up for it as reason enough to remain unaltered.

Whomever made that thing should leave the vexillology to the professionals.

John Yates’ proposed flag does look hideous. It’s not as unusual as they are claiming—some similarity to the flag of Macedonia (which is only two colors).

Oh just remove the white saltire St. Andrews cross and you still have a decent flag. That is the simple solution which of course eludes this moronic design.

Agree. And it looks like the Netherlands has annexed Belgium, or something. United Britain is a bit of a misnomer too, as Northern Ireland isn’t in Britain, but the powers that be in London presumably expect to maintain control of it. Or, along with ‘Team GB’, they are trying to tell us all something?

Awful. But it would be a good flag for the EU.

The overall design does resemble the Union Jack. The red, white and blue do look like the French flag. And the black, red and yellow resemble the the German flag.

England needs out of the UK much more than Scotland does. True, England was the catalyst and until recently the engine of the Union (to the extent that "England" came to mean "the United Kingdom" or "Great Britain") but those days are long over.

The Celts are now full bore (left wing) nationalists and demand parliaments/assemblies of their own. This means they get to vote on their own issues and then in Westminster on England's too (though before this it was the other way around, with England voting on Scottish and Irish issues and simply out-voting Irish and Scottish representatives because England had most of them anyway). This means the Union was never really fair to all parties from the beginning.

Unlike Scotland, Wales, and (Northern) Ireland, England's identity has been totally absorbed in the British identity (much like Anglo-Saxon Americas are the only unhyphenated Americans). I say let the Scots and Ulster go and don't let them back in. Don't even handle their foreign policies. For the first time in seven hundred and seven years, let there be a sovereign Kingdom (or even Republic) of England again.

Wales is a different matter. Though it was ruled as an English colony from the Edwardian conquest in the late thirteenth century, it was annexed fully into England under Henry VIII (whose father was a Welshman). Its deannexation was a long, drawn-out process not beginning until 1955 when Cardiff was declared its "capital." The "England" unit of the UK wasn't even declared "England and Wales" (I think) until some time in the 1960's. What I'm saying is that since Wales was (unlike Scotland and Ireland) fully annexed into England itself, it was probably a mistake to "deannex" it. Doing this so long after annexation means slicing off a piece of England, thus paving the way for Cornish and other (left wing) nationalists. What's next, a restoration of Celtic Britain with the "foreign devils" sent back to Angeln, Lower Saxony, and Jutland???

Yes, as Ashburner carefully says, it is “unlike any other flag currently in existence.” Those of us of a more traditional and logical outlook might suggest there is a very good reason for that...
