My neighbor (missionaries from the U.K.) birthed 3 at home with a midwife. One in Israel. Thru her I have met several who have given birth at home.
It’s not that unusual to have home birth. My son was born at home, I have friends that had their babies at home. We had a home birth at the apartment complex I manage a few years ago.
Although I never worked in the OB Dept,I worked for 20 years at the hospital widely thought by experts to have the finest OB service in the world (hint:it's in Boston). What I learned there, from obstetricians with whom I interacted,is that,in the West, about 99% of deliveries that are expected to go smoothly *do* exactly that. But the other 1% go wrong...and that's when you want a physician, rather than a nurse midwife,on scene.
Home births are 1920's America....and the Third World to this day.
