Long before he arrived at the White House, Barack Obama was the son of a single mother, challenged and tempted by the same societal ills that disproportionately keep African-Americans impoverished and behind bars.

Are we talking about the same Obama, whose had a "nanny" in Indonesia, went to a posh private school in Hawaii, then had to suffer like so many other street urchins by going to Occidental and Columbia? His only temptations were the group of kids he associated with in high school that were into marijuana.

In that regard he has more in common with the Kennedy kids than he does with impoverished youth from the inner city.
