The Brooklyn-raised director launched into an argument about the drawbacks of gentrification Compared Fort Greene Park to the 'motherf*****' Wesminster Dog Show' because it is so clean Lee was raised in Brooklyn but has lived in the Upper East Side since 2000
Spike Lee went on a long-winded rant against gentrification in New York City on Tuesday night when he was asked to argue against the development of poorer neighborhoods in Brooklyn and Harlem.
The director, who has focused on racial issues and gentrification in his films, blasted an audience member at the Pratt Institute who started defending the changes in the neighborhoods.
'Let me just kill you right now,' Lee said to the unidentified questioner.
Lee pointed the finger at white New Yorkers who have moved into historically black neighborhoods and changed the environment, arguing that those changes have caused the areas to evolve into something completely different.
'Heres the thing: I grew up here in Fort Greene. I grew up here in New York. Its changed. And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better?' he said.

We’ve been so busy lately that we just can’t find the time.
Supposedly, he has an apartment 4 blocks east of Central Park on E 63rd just off Madison Ave. in Manhattan. It’s just a mile down Park Ave. from where Beyonce had several rooms of Lenox Hill Hospital rebuilt into a birthing suite for her. Sounds like Spike moved on up to his piece of the pie instead of remaining in the ghetto.
A couple of nights a week, I watch an episode of an old tv program after the kids are in bed. Other than that, it’s reading and college lectures on CD.
why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better?’ he said.
Maybe that’s a question Spike should think about,
real hard.
‘When you see white mothers pushing their babies in strollers, three oclock in the morning on 125th Street, that must tell you something.’
Yeah Spike, it’s safe.
We’re usually in bed by 9 or 9:30. My husband is up between 4:30 and 5:30 most days.
“And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better?’ he said”
Because Whites have standards that they won’t subordinate to political expedience. Lee’s rant demonstrates that Whites will move into heavily Black neighborhoods but they WON’T put up with violence.
His townhouse looks like Versailles.
I get up at 5:30. Have to do the Morning Kitteh before the turmoil starts!
‘My fathers a great jazz musician. He bought a house in nineteen-motherf*****-sixty-eight, and the motherf*****’ people moved in last year and called the cops on my father. Hes not he doesnt even play electric bass! Its acoustic! We bought the motherf***** house in nineteen-sixty-motherf*****-eight and now you call the cops? In 2013? Get the f*** outta here!’
Wow, Spike Lee doing the racist fearful rant that white screen writers used to put into the mouth of Archie Bunker. Priceless!
Archie would never have used that kind of language in front of Edith.
Gosh, it sounds racist when a white person says it.
Lee pointed the finger at white New Yorkers who have moved into historically black neighborhoods and changed the environment, arguing that those changes have caused the areas to evolve into something completely different.

Notice the difference?
Yeah. One is racist but Spikey can’t be racist so his identical statement is perfectly fine and needs indignant support. /s
That something completely different is called civilization. Apparently something that only occurs with the arrival of white people.
Mr. T likes quiet time. He makes coffee, lets out the dogs, and spends time online.
I know I have to be functional once byos start getting up, so I figure I might as well be proactive, get some dishes done, drink coffee, etc. Sometimes I get the chance to crash in the afternoon during Kathleen’s nap.
There goes the neighborhood.
“And why does it take an influx of white New Yorkers in the south Bronx, in Harlem, in Bed Stuy, in Crown Heights for the facilities to get better?”
I don’t think Spike is ready to accept the answer to that question.
He’s pretty hit or miss. More than half his films are way too heavy handed and that just gets in the way of whatever message he wanted to get across. I did like “Crooklyn” though, that was a nice slice of life pic.
