Georgia Teen Holding Wii Remote Shot by Cops at His Front Door: Family Lawyer
New York Daily News ^ | WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 19, 2014 | Irving DeJohn

Christopher Roupe, 17, was shot by a Euharlee police officer on Friday when he answered the door. Police say he was pointing a handgun, not the video game device. Roupe was an aspiring Marine, his family said.

A Georgia teen who dreamed of being a Marine was killed by police at his front door while wielding only a Wii remote, the family lawyer claims.

Christopher Roupe, 17, of Euharlee was felled by a single police bullet when an unidentified officer arrived at the family mobile home to execute a probation violation warrant against his father, authorities said.

Meanwhile, police assert that the teen pointed a gun directly at the female officer, prompting her to blast the boy in the chest.

The circumstances of the tragic shooting last Friday night are under reviewed by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, according to reports.

“It just doesn't add up,” family attorney Cole Law told WSBTV. “He heard a knock at the door. He asked who it was, there was no response so he opened the door and upon opening the door he was immediately shot in the chest.” Roupe, 17, was a member of the ROTC at Woodland High School and was planning to sign up for the Marines, his friends said.

“He was a good kid,” his pal William Corson told WSBT.

Euharlee police said two officers arrived at roughly 7:35 p.m. and Roupe answered the door with a gun drawn — contradicting the lawyer and witness claims that he was unarmed, expect for the video game device.

The officer, who has been placed on administrative leave, broke down after she realized that she had shot the teen at point-blank range, witnesses said.

“She put her head in her hands and she was sobbing,” Ken Yates told WSBT. "Supposedly, he opened the door with a BB gun and in my opinion I think he was playing a game with his neighborhood buddies."

Roupe was transported to a hospital in Cartersville where he was pronounced dead. The result of the investigation will be forwarded to the district attorney’s office, police said.

Police directed all questions regarding the shooting to the GBI. A spokeswoman for the unit did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

A spokeswoman for the family directed all inquiries to their attorney, who could not be immediately reached for comment on Wednesday.

In this case it is less of a gender thing and more of an “out of control wannabe SWAT team members who don’t realize that the police shows they watch on tv aren’t documentaries” thing.

In the real non-government world of the private sector, the government would ID you, plaster your pic all over the papers, publicly discredit you anyway possible, dig deep in your background, and drag you through 30 years of courts and violent prison...They'd also seize your assets and loot everything you ever had..

If the scum bags take everything a man has, and give him no hope for anything ever again, what does a man like that do sometimes? Falling down maybe?

Gee.

I guess video games really *do* cause violence and death, after all.

The most important thing is that she got home safely so that she could update her status on Facebook. No dogs were killed, so the police have that going for them. Killing kids is just one of those things that people need to get used to, it’s the price of staying safe.

Soon it will be open season on cops. This will not end well.

Renee Vance, the aunt of Mr. Roupe, left a lengthy comment on another websites forum in regards to the murder of her nephew. Mr. Roupe apparently had a Wii controller in his hand because he was getting ready to watch a movie when the cops showed up. He asked “who is it?” when the cops knocked on the door, but nobody responded, according to Vance.

The female cop already had her gun drawn when Mr. Roupe opened the door and gave him no warning to drop the [controller]. The 13-year-old sister of Mr. Roupe, who was crying, went to hug and/or comfort her dying brother when the female cop pointed the gun at her and told her to “shut up.”

She should do The Honorable Thing, now.

It was her and another officer — though she did the shooting. There were two of them — so the cover-up was a conspiracy.

And to date they still haven’t produced the dangerous thing he had in his hand.

Oh I can see how a highly trained seasoned police officer could mistake a game controller for an AK-47 machine gun ... got him before he could press the kill button!!!

“She put her head in her hands and she was sobbing,”

“The peasant put his head in his hands and he was sobbing,” said the prosecutor as he threw the book at him.

Note to peasant: Next time, be wearing your Magic Brown Costume or Magic Blue Costume! Then, it will be All Good!

Multiple procedure violations by the officer. However, the root of the problem is probably an affirmative action hiring followed by lax training to ensure she qualified for the field. Police are in full CYA mode trying to mitigate damages that will come from a settlement or civil trial. Saddest thing is that two lives are ruined forever.

OH EM GEE DUDE, OMG. Good find.

So, she’s nuts, this is what she’s proclaiming to the world. She states, in public, that sometimes she can’t focus, because “the little weirdo that lives inside [her]..is off her meds”.

That’s great, just great.

You are right, this is an attorney’s dream come true. The deposition questions just write themselves!

So that’s the kid? He was white? We’ll never hear 2 words about this again from the MSM.

RIP poor fellow, whatever you or your father did your life should not have been ended in such a dreadful manner.

This is an outrage and citizens have been programmed to let the police decide if the cop did the wrong thing. This wasn’t an accident.

Good grief! The hiring standards must be too low to measure.

Multiple procedure violations by the officer.

Would inconsistent statements be one of them?

Great info, thanks!

"The Daily Tribune News reported that the young man survived the initial shot, but bled to death waiting for paramedics to arrive. Both the killer cop and the one accompanying her were rewarded for the kill with paid vacations, aka “paid administrative leave.”

Ummmm, were the paramedics delayed by the cops or higher ups so the victim/witness would die and not be able to testify? I'd hate to think officials would go that far to cover-up what really happened.

Check out post #17, I don’t think we can say this woman has a SWAT team mentality, her issues are of another variety.

Which is worse - who can say?
