Derek Jeter announced today that he wants to walk away from 20 years at the top of major league baseball to start a family.
The New York Yankees captain answered question for nearly half an hour on Wednesday, exactly one week after his shock announcement his is to retire at the end of the coming season.
Looking optimistically forward to the future, the legend said that he is looking forward to beginning a family despite splitting recently from Victoria's Secret model Hannah Davis.
Indeed, Jeter's history with women could cause many to raise an eyebrow at the notorious ladies man's declared desire to settle down. And with a track record of beautiful women that includes two Victoria's Secret Model's, one Miss Universe, Scarlet Johannson, Minka Kelly and Mariah Carey, who would blame them? 'You can't do this forever. I'd like to,' he said. 'There's some things I look forward to doing.' 'I want to have a family,' Jeter told a packed-house press conference.

shock..?????...20 years as a short stop is a long time.
Most Yankees fans realize that, I fully expected it....
Doesn’t think he can turn a double play when he is 7 months pregnant?
You beat me to it - since when is it “shocking” for an 18-20 year veteran to announce his retirement at the end of the upcoming season?
He dated Mariah? I thought she was still wed to that billionaire guy that can’t die or something.
Greatest singing porn star ever.
I expected this to be his last year. I didn’t expect him to announce it until the end of the season.
...more or less an event.....the Yankee’s upper level want to making it an event. Anyone who has followed Jeter knows very well, he really don’t like the spot light...
You’re probably right....I guess Mariano sold a lot of tickets last year...
and who is he going to "pick" to be his wife...or maybe he doesn't plan on actually marrying....maybe he can get one of his shallow silicon botoxed girlfriends to bear some children....
did he ever consider that the older a man is when he makes a baby the greater the chance of passing on autism to that baby?...did he ever consider that staying home every night and waking up several times at night to feed and care for junior is going to be a big change from being the big shot and womanizer....
why does Jeter think he is so special that he can just start a family like its no big deal.....I predict that he'll special order his kids....probably will knock off the girl children in favor of sons....will he choose a white woman?.....further whitening his "heritage" because every one knows if you have one drop of black blood you're considered black, even if you're mostly white....
Guess he believed his old Little League coach about how girls steal your energy away from your games.
Jeter is no mere mortal. He is unique as a person, a man and a baseball playing professional athlete. He personifies everything most competitive men aspire to, but never attain. He resembles what America could be. He is the best ever yankee. He is irreplaceable.
Yeah?
How many women wanna be a Valtrex commercial for the rest of their lives?
He’s gonna be “The Bachelor”
Best Yankee ever?...that’s a stretch..I’ll go with best Yankee post WW II..that work for you?
You are being pretty critical and making many assumptions. People should leave the guy along; he isn’t asking for anyone’s help or advice.
He has worked hard; now he realizes there are more important things than playing an adult game.
Hats off to him. I do hope however he has plans to be married to be starting a family.
You always hear of the corporate guy retiring to “spend more time with his family.” I’ve never heard of one say “I’m retiring to START a family. Can’t see how playing a game would have ever stopped you from starting one. Baseball players don’t make love to their wives, girl friends or mistresses?

A minimum of 81 away games during the regular season.
Maybe he’d like to start a family AND participate fully in the raising of his family. As in full time.
Your post sounds like a critique. Why?
The rigors of pro baseball certainly hasn’t stopped many other players from being good family men and Dads. Jeter sounds pretty selfish making his hundreds of millions, spending his youth womanizing, and suddenly quitting in his 40s to “start a family.”
Who is a better role model other than Gehrig , but he was not five tool like Jeter
And I'm a Mets fan!
