These types of surveys always ignore a lot of other quality-of-life issues, too. California is not everybody’s cup of tea. And San Francisco may have culture, restaurants and shopping and be close to recreational opportunities. But rent used to be really high. The climate isn’t to everybody’s liking. And I think that they have a big homeless problem, which may not sound like a big deal, but can be demoralizing day after day( I realize its not a bowl of cherries for the homeless themselves either, at the risk of sounding nasty) I personally could not tolerate the politics of the city by the bay. I know it’s not that different from Seattle, which is fun if you’re a young non-Christian liberal hipster with plenty of disposable income, not so much fun if you’re another demographic.
