User’s can now select a “custom” gender option.

“There’s going to be a lot of people for whom this is going to mean nothing, but for the few it does impact, it means the world,” Facebook software engineer Brielle Harrison told the Associated Press. Harrison, who worked on the project, is in the process of gender transition, from male to female.

Facebook will also allow users to select between three pronouns: “him,” “her” or “their.”

It comes from chemical terms. Some molecules are, like, right-handed or left-handed? Meaning there may be two molecules with the same molecular formula, except they look like mirror images, paired left-right. One is called the "cis" form and the other is called the "trans" form of the molecule.

When I was a little girl, pretending to be animals was a common thing. My friends and I could act out the whole "Aristocats" movie. Nobody wanted to be the humans!

I don’t know what most of them mean either. What is “cis?”

It means "on the same side" and is a term used in chemistry. The opposite of "cis" is "trans." So if you stuck two pieces of tape on one side of a piece of glass, they would be "cis" and if you put one on each side of the glass, they would be "trans."

In terms of gender, I have no clue what that word is supposed to mean. The correct terms for "gender" are "male" and "female."

That is the whole point. Cis is a derogatory term made up by the homosexuals and transwhatevers to make normal people be not normal but just one of many categories. To them, sticking to traditional gender roles is the bad thing. Being weird and perverted is the good thing. So they make up a derogatory term for normal people. And about a hundred positive terms for themselves.

I used to browse Reddit and you would be surprised how they loved using the word "cis" as if it were a legitimate scientific term, but I looked up the origin of cis and it was invented on a message board on USENET in the '90s by a transsexual who wanted to label people who were normal..other than normal..

I vaguely remember the terms “cis” and “trans” from my limited exposure to organic chemistry 40 years ago. I do remember that they had nothing to do with peoples sexual delusions.

Damn! I’m so old I remember when there were only two! And that was just a few years ago. I really had no idea the human genome had mutated that much in such a short period of time. But at least we finally now know what distinguishes homo sapiens from the rest of the animal kingdom: we have 58 genders and everything else has only one or two.
