I've never used Visual Studio, so I can't compare them, but Eclipse is pretty good, and it comes with a ton of plugins for a variety of development environments.

It usually comes as part of the distro's software repository as well, so it's pretty easy to get.

Eclipse runs on Windows as well as Linux; that’s a good thing for me.

Not sure what the GNU/netbeans thing is.
