I am not knocking purebreds, just that unfortunately many people who want purebreds are doing it more as a status symbol, rather than for love of the dog.

I went purebred Lab just because of the pet adoption Nazis at the local kennels. The wife and kids had a dog all picked out and then the madness began. I was out of town on business so they couldn't proceed with the adoption until I returned and set up an appointment to be interviewed. Not only that, they wanted to tour my house and property and they wanted to interview my neighbors! AND... in addition, among other requirements, they also wanted copies of my previous dogs' vet records (3 dogs going back 20+ years).

I told them to get screwed. 3 days later I started a 12 year love affair with a beautiful black bitch. Sadly, she passed on just about this time, last year. She was one of a kind. But then again, each dog I have had has been one of a kind. Funny how it works out that way... ;-)

It's too bad for the pups but pet adoption agencies are their own worst enemy.
