on the other side, OBGYns have most often - and probably originally - been mostly men, and women have been alright with that

I knew a woman, somewhat a feminist, who decided that only a female OBGYN would be employed to deliver her baby. Afterwards, she swore she would never go to a female doctor again, "That woman had no compassion or empathy for the pain I suffered or for what I was going through, none!" For my part, I suspect it depends on the individual.

My GYN retired recently, so I got reassigned to another doctor in the practice...an Asian woman. I really loved my male GYN-—he had a great sense of humor and would crack jokes-—but now I’m thinking, wait....the Asian female’s hands are a lot smaller. That has to be good.
