WHAT DO SOCIOPATHS/NARCISSISTS READ?

Posted on 01/29/2014 11:13:19 AM PST by 7thson

While getting ready for work this morning, I was pondering the current occupant of the White House and wondered what he read. Or did he even read at all? Then I started thinking about novels and thought about sociopaths and narcissists - do they read novels? The reason I ask this question is that 99 percent of the novels has a hero and villian with the hero winning at the end. And the hero usually wins at the end because he/she can see and know what is bigger than themselves. They achieve by sacrificing certain things in order to achieve good results.

But sociopaths do not do that. They think only of themselves and work to advance themselves at the expense and health of others. So my question - do sociopaths/narcissists read? If so, what? Non-fiction? Technical? Do they read novels? Do they read the Bibile? Are their studies on this and if so, where could I find them?

People's History Of The United States by Howard Zinn. The ones who even read, that is.

From Amazon:

"For Davi Rhii, Prince of the Boralian people, that nightmare has become a reality. Freshly graduated from the prestigious Borali Military Academy, now he's discovered a secret that calls into question everything he knew about himself. His quest to rediscover himself brings him into conflict with his friends and family, calling into question his cultural values and assumptions, and putting in jeopardy all he's worked for his whole life. One thing's for sure: he's going to have to make decisions that will change his life forever..."

Notice in the picture, O has his pen out...

I’ve never read the complete novel, but for some reason, the book ‘Catcher In The Rye” seems to be one of many favorites with sociopaths.

LOL.

My understanding is that sociopaths were never able to finish the book, as it cut too close to home.

I read “Catcher in the Rye” senior year of high school. It was dreck.

Then I wrote a paper about “Catcher in the Rye”. It was dreck, too.

Then I forgot most of it.

Because it was dreck.

I have to admit that I have a fair bit of psychopathic traits, although I’m not a bad person. :)

At least for me, I like to read about how people tick so I can relate to people better. If I were a bad person, I’d probably read the same stuff I do, but only to learn how to become better at manipulating them.

Well, if you weren’t doing things that could put you on the hook, it wouldn’t matter. :)

you know, that’s funny.

I read a lot of fitness stuff, and if at a book store, I just grab a bunch and flip through them till I find articles that I want to read.

I remember once flipping through a magazine and thinking, “you know...this doesn’t really seem to be as much about exercise as about....oohh yuck...”

Then I began looking for hand/eye/brain sanitizer.

There's all the difference in the world between sociopaths and narcissists. Narcissists need -- crave -- approval. Sociopaths don't.

Narcissism is used to describe both a specific psychological diagnosis and egotism in general. Sociopaths (like a lot of other people) can be -- are -- narcissistic, but they are different from narcissists.

It is my understanding that sociopaths/narcissists will read everything including pop literature so as to better understand their ‘audience’. It enables them to behave like the hero even when their agenda is all about themselves.

Having personal experience this type of personality, I could never understand how or why they can act perfectly normal and display all the appropriate emotions (learned through reading and observing) and not actually ingrain these traits into their true selves. I’ve discovered it is not possible for sociopaths/narcissits to be anything other than they are - liars in disguise.
