Socialism has no room for love and charity.

I see your point, but I believe I disagree. Socialism—along with Communism, Progressivism, and generally all ideological positions from the Left—redefines the terms "Love and charity." It is not merely a matter of excluding love and charity, instead, by redefinition of the terms, it is able to accrue greater power.

With the firm belief that the individual is in no position to determine what is best for themselves or what is best for a fellow human being, individual acts of love and charity are redefined to mean signing over one's wealth and the fruits of one's labor to a technical apparatus that is purportedly in a better position to make those kinds of decisions. Thus the entire means of love and charity is mediated through the State. The bureaucracy distributes as it will because the State is smarter, more benevolent, and has more information than individual members.

Thus, compliance with the demands of the State becomes the new definition of love and charity. Welcome to Animal Farm.

“Thus the entire means of love and charity is mediated through the State.”

Actually, you expressed quite well that which I was trying to convey. The State is incapable of love or charity. For once such acts of love or kindness become ‘forced’, that which it is trying to emulate is lost. In its attempt to play God, the State becomes nothing more than a giant combine.
