I wonder about that sometimes. If an intruder breaks into my house, will my wife and I have time to put on earmuffs before I deal with the guy? I don’t see why I should have to sacrifice my hearing to some jackass home invader.

My Wife and I are going to try and get some suppressors for home defense use.
Bleeding out of our ears doesn't sound like a fun thing.

My guess is you probably will not have time to get hearing protection. To put it on may even limit your hearing to the extent you may be at greater risk in not being able to use your hearing sense to locate the intruder. So, while it is a concern and indeed you may suffer some hearing loss or perhaps become so rattled you cannot accurately fire follow up shots, I would not worry about it.
