Most beach side huts survivors build tend to face the water and for the most part it is a plus. At night you get a gentle breeze to help blow away insects. Little help though when a storm rolls in from the water.

The tribes tend to favor large roomy shelters with a roof more suited for shade than repelling water.

A better method would be to build a smaller A frame shelter with raised platform. Have the open ends face the water and the jungle. Put a good roof on it. Weave a couple mats in a triangle that you can use to block the end the wind is coming from.

For shade during the day you could put a light bamboo frame up in the trees and throw shade material up on them.
