I think the problem is that most libertarians don’t actually know what libertarianism is, and its not a definite ideology. They will say they want drug legalization and the Fed dismantled, but will they declare they want public school abolished? Having the government educate kids is an affront to libertarianism, but they would likely shrink away from that. I think one can only conclude that libertarians today are actually just old-fashioned populists. They ride economic liberty because its in vogue, yet take social liberalism along with it, because its in vogue.
But its important to note this does not include all libertarians. Ron Paul has said some not very favorable things about homosexuals, and publicly declared in a debate that the government should not perform marriages at all.
BUT look at some of the people Paul associated with closely. His new home schooling curriculum is done in conjunction with one of the most prominent advocates of dominion theology, (also known as ‘Christian Reconstructionism’ or ‘Hard Theonomy’), Gary North. Paul has some roots in this movement as well. In fact, many on the left have accused him of being a front for people who want the federal controls dissolved so they can run individual states and townships as they see fit, under religious orders.
The libertarian movement in the US is not simple, nor anything fun to be poking around in. You need only attend a Ron Paul event to find some very strange people, not just conspiracy theorists.
But I don’t think Glenn is a libertarian. He’s just a populist. He’s trying to make money and he’s willing to disobey God to do that. He wants to be ‘trendy’ so he’s climbing in bed with the left. Like you say, I think he’ll end up destroying himself. “The Land will spit him out!”
There is much that Ron and Rand say that attract conservatives, but if you just look below the surface, they see NO advantage in support for Israel. I don't want to call them outright Anti-Semites, but they view it as "slanted" to support one country over another and, up until the black messiah, we have supported Israel out in the open and that upsets a libertarian. If they are, in fact, Anti-Semite, then they have a problem with their Christian walk. As Christians, we were adopted, or grafted in, with God's people. God made it plain that He would NEVER turn his back on Israel and bless those that bless them. It doesn't matter if they are being disciplined by God, they are still God's people. There may be individual Jews that make us angry, but we are still family.
IMO, us turning our backs on Israel is bringing a curse upon America as we speak. The fact that we are weakening our sodomy laws is another harbinger. If God takes His blessing from America, it would be possible for a few men with box cutters to kill more Americans than the Japanese did at Pearl Harbor or the strongest economy in the world could collapse over night,.....Oh, been there done that.
The further we retreat from God, the farther He is from us.
During the Duck Dynasty kerfuffle, I had a vision. I could see in my minds eye, America, standing on a high wire over a canyon with hell fire at the bottom and a man weaving back and forth trying to keep his balance, with a raised fist, shaking it at God, and screaming, "What are you going to do about this!" "I'm not afraid of you!"
God's people, here in the US, are NOT praying for their own country and people. They don't understand and fear God anymore, IMO. EVERY CHURCH, of every denomination, should have prayer teams praying for America to turn from it's evil ways. I think it's obvious, we aren't. God has no choice but to bring America to it's knees to bring God back into daily life. I remember right after 9-11, almost every house had a flag out front and many people went back to church. That lasted about 3 months. Obviously, we haven't learned our lesson yet. Without God, we won't be able to win against stone age people with sticks, if God withdraws His blessing. I think Viet Nam proved that. We never lost a battle, yet we lost the war. I still remember the Mag cover stating God was dead. The age of free love, drugs, abortion, and removal of prayer from school, had a high cost. Accepting sodomy, 55 million dead babies, a Muslim president with no Social Security number, accepting an adulterous president that lied under oath, the list is growing daily and we haven't repented yet. God will bring His children to repentance. We have been hearing the love of God so long we have forgotten that Fear of God is the beginning of knowledge. He disciplines because He loves. If your son was playing Russian roulette, would you not do what it took to save him?
