I’m glad too,it’s sure a shame that the dash camera was malfunctioning at the time! The good news is we still will have the officer’s word to rely on what happened!
It's getting to the point where we need concealed cameras and microphones with offsite storage for use during any interaction with government officials. Evidence against you will always be available. Evidence against the government just happens to be conveniently unavailable.
I always figured when a government agency has cameras and they malfunction, the “malfunction” should be treated as being just as damning as the WORST thing that could have been on the tape, because (1) that’s likely what it was, (2) maintaining the tech was their responsibility as the owner and they shouldn’t get a windfall from failing to do so, and (3) there shouldn’t be any incentive to spike negative evidence, especially when it’s a branch of government in question.
“Malfunctioning dash cams” should carry a 5 year (hard time) prison sentence for any officer who does ANYTHING other than get it repaired...
They [the cops] have learned from experience to always have the dash cam malfunction when it captures something that will incriminate them.To Wit: The unnecessary beating the hell out of someone or the unnecessary shooting of someone.
