I have to say I was also surprised with Django Unchained. The “conservative” media didn’t like all the n-words and thought it reflected badly on us. I didn’t see it because all of the racists were 100% democrats in that movie. As far as the “shootout”(’s) factor I’d have to give it a 9.675 Guns, please forgive my Olympic scoring.

The shoot out factor in “Tombstone” was very good but it’s an 8.9 Gun rating at best. Yeah the end was good but not very realistic. Who charges all those guns running through a shallow river?

As I see it,

“True Grit” shootout is 9.710 Guns.

“The Shootist” shootout is 9.735 Guns, but only because of his compelling relationship with Lauren Bacall.

“Unforgiven” shootout is an easy 9.80 Guns but he had the drop on them so...

“Open Range” shootout is a 9.875 Guns because it was very realistic especially when the town’s people overcame their fears and fought back because of the inspiration of others. Dare I say, Duvall’s best movie, but that’s hard to judge.

So much to discuss :)

This is another area where I think "Wyatt Earp" did a better job. That movie is (mostly) accurate, especially the OK Corral shootout. They have it taking place in an alley, which is where the real gunfight happened. The OK Corral was nearby and I guess that looked better in newspapers than "gunfight in an alley".

BUT--the gunfights in Tombstone, while unrealistic like you said, are a lot more fun to watch :)

Oh that's a 10! I agree. That is the best shootout ever filmed. I've never seen anything else like it. And it's not just the shootout itself. It's Costner telling Duvall what to expect before the fight even begins, while they're smoking their last cigars, eating expensive (but melted) chocolate bars, telling each other their real names ... Then the fight starts. And it's just the way Costner described. So well done.

I haven't watched that movie in a couple years. I gonna pop in the DVD again tonight :)
