Yes! I remember that too. It wasn't recess without skinned knees and elbows. And unless it was really bleeding we didn't even get a band-aid, lol
I drove by my elementary/middle school a few years ago and they had replaced the blacktop with a patch of soft dirt. I'm sure the kids' knees are thankful, but it'sjust not the same.
I still have bicycle scars on my knees...and YES< I can still recall the details of each scar! Life was GOOD then! a little blood got ya merthiolate that burned like hell....rapidly followed by a hug from mom, and half a popcicle, if ya squeezed out enough tears ;-) (Remember “Twin pops” that your mom hit against the kitchen counter, so ya only ate half?)
I have to laugh when I think of how our playground equipment was on the blacktop. Even the monkey bars. Every year, without fail, someone cracked their head open. Of course the giant metal slide sitting in the scorching sun, not only gave us some nice burns, but the slide itself had us flying off the end and landing on the asphalt. Ouch.

So funny, mine too!! Even grass growing! Sissies.
Oh, and the bungalows have a/c!! I have not so fond memories of having to work in the dark as we attempted to keep the rooms cool in those bungalows when it was over 100 degrees. The beads of sweat just rolling down your chest and stomach inside your clothes (pre puberty! All chests the same boy or girl, lol).
