I know it’s just a TV show, but they just had a scene where a guy is “randomly selected” for a fully body search just because the mayor doesn’t like him. “Guess you shouldn’t have pissed off the mayor”, said the cop. It’s played for laughs, but this stuff (and worse) really happens, all due to a politician’s whim.
